Long-range excitons in conjugated polymers with ring torsions
نویسنده
چکیده
Ring torsion effects on optical excitation properties in poly(para-phenylene) (PPP) and polyaniline (PAN) are investigated by the intermediate exciton formalism. Long-range excitons are characterized, and the long-range component of the oscillator strengths is calculated. We find that ring torsions affect the long-range excitons in PAN more easily than in PPP, due to the larger torsion angle of PAN and the large number of bonds whose hopping integrals are modulated by torsions. ∗E-mail address: [email protected]; URL: http://www.etl.go.jp/ harigaya/

Long-range excitons in conjugated polymers with ring torsions: poly(para-phenylene) and polyaniline
Ring torsion effects on optical excitation properties in poly(para-phenylene) (PPP) and polyaniline (PAN) are investigated by extending Shimoi-Abe’s model [Synth. Met. 78, 219 (1996)]. The model is solved by the intermediate exciton formalism. Long-range excitons are characterized, and the long-range component of the oscillator strengths is calculated. We find that ring torsions affect the long...
متن کاملExcitons in two coupled conjugated polymer chains
We have studied the exciton states in two coupled conjugated polymer chains which are modeled individually by the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger Hamiltonian and coupled by an interchain electron-transfer term. Both the intraand interchain long range Coulomb interactions are taken into account. The properties of the lowest symmetric and antisymmetric exciton states are extensively discussed for both the p...

Electron-hole (e-h) capture in luminescent conjugated polymers (LCPs) is modeled by the dissipative dynamics of a multilevel electronic system coupled to a phonon bath. Electroinjected e-h pairs are simulated by a mixed quantum state, which relaxes via phonon-driven internal conversions to low-lying charge-transfer (CT) and excitonic (XT) states. The underlying two-band polymer model reflects P...
متن کاملNonlinear Optical Response from Excitons in Soliton Lattice Systems of Doped Conjugated Polymers
Exciton effects on conjugated polymers are investigated in soliton lattice states. We use the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model with long-range Coulomb interactions. The Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation and the single-excitation configurationinteraction (single-CI) method are used to obtain optical absorption spectra. The third-harmonic generation (THG) at off-resonant frequencies is calculated as func...
متن کاملQuantum chemical investigation of biexcitons in conjugated polymers
The formation of biexcitons in conjugated polymers is examined within the Pariser-Parr-Pople (PPP) model of polyacetylene. The calculations are done using a scattering formalism that provides a size-consistent description of excited states containing both single and double electron-hole pair excitations. The excited-state absorption spectrum from the 1Bu exciton state was calculated and examine...
